Franco-German AI Summer School “AI for Science” in Paris | Applications Open
A new Franco-German initiative will bring together the next generation of artificial intelligence researchers in Paris. The AI for Science Summer School, organized by AI Grid, in collaboration with the Sorbonne Cluster for Artificial Intelligence and Institut DataIA Paris-Saclay, will take place from 6 to 10 July 2026 in Paris.
The programme will gather around forty Master’s and PhD students from France and Germany for a week dedicated to scientific exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and the exploration of new research ideas at the intersection of artificial intelligence and scientific discovery.
The Summer School will take place across two major research hubs of the Paris AI ecosystem: Sorbonne Université and Université Paris-Saclay, two institutions at the forefront of European research in artificial intelligence and data science.
AI for Science : accelerating discovery through artificial intelligence
The programme focuses on the growing role of AI in advancing scientific discovery across disciplines. Artificial intelligence is increasingly used to accelerate research in fields ranging from mathematics and physics to medicine, climate science and cybersecurity.
Throughout the week, participants will attend expert lectures, take part in interdisciplinary discussions and engage with researchers working at the frontiers of AI-enabled science. Key themes include:
Artificial Intelligence for Mathematics
Artificial Intelligence for Medicine
Artificial Intelligence for Physics
Artificial Intelligence for Climate
Artificial Intelligence for Cybersecurity
Beyond lectures, the Summer School is designed as a collaborative scientific experience. Students will work in Franco-German teams to develop new research ideas, combining perspectives from different disciplines and research cultures.
Building new Franco-German research collaborations
One of the distinctive features of the programme is its collaborative format. Participants will form international research teams and develop project proposals during the week.
At the end of the programme, selected teams will be invited to continue their collaboration over the following year, with dedicated financial support to develop their joint research ideas.
This initiative reflects the broader ambition of strengthening European cooperation in artificial intelligence research and supporting the emergence of a new generation of internationally connected AI scientists.
The Summer School is also part of a growing ecosystem of training and scientific exchange initiatives that contribute to structuring the European AI research landscape and fostering collaboration between research communities.
